Terorism has become a familiar and popular issue in Indonesia within the last ten years. Over tens terror boms was held and schocked the Indonesian during that time. Every man in this country always pay more attention to this topic. And the media sensitively package this as a public issue. Especially for the arrest of terorist event.
On August 2009, for the fisrt time the news televions channel in Indonesia held the live report for those event. tvOne and Metro TV totally blow-up this arrest of terorist event by the police in Temanggung second by second. Even, they relayed a live report for at least 17 hours. Both of Metro TV and tvOne got a very positive result for their efforts on covering the arrest of terorist event. Their ratings climb up highly, over other television program such as drama. As we know that drama usually gets the top rating for television program. The competition between tvOne and Metro TV to be the best and getting viewers as much as they can, has driven them to make a fastest news. Here, tvOne leads its competitor by getting a higher rating share. tvOne continued its success by produced a similiar live report such as the arrest of terorist event at Bekasi, Solo, and Ciputat during August until Oktober 2009.
But, tvOne’s efforts to be the fastest and exclusive have brought a serious effect to the news itself. Faults, dramatizations, and sensationalities in the news are some problems caused by those kind of live report. Indonesian Broadcasting Committee (KPI) admitted tvOne for its news missleading. Many people said that tvOne has provided unaccurate and hyperbolic news. Futhermore, the news has no longer reflect the reality as it should. But the news, then, becomes a hyperbolic reality which is produced to reach a certain value. As the result, news begin to contain hyperiality.
Researcher analyzed this hypereality in the news content by saw the truth or factuality in the live report. Researcher used Melvin Mencer’s components of the story to see the factuality of the news. this components consist of some points including accuracy, objectivity, fairness, and actuality. On the text level, researcher used critical discourse analysis by Teun A. Van Dijk as a method. While on the next step called discourse practice and sociocultural practice, researcher used a critical discourse analysis method by Norman Fairclough.
After doing a multilevel research, researcher found that live report of the arrest of terorist event in tvOne contain a hipereality. On the text level, the hypereality shown by untrue, hyper, and dramatic informations which lead the failure of the news to reflect the reality. The expert consumers interpreted the same thing as researcher found. But, as a producer, tvOne didn’t think so and said that tvOne is innocent on producing live repots. At the larger context, exactly in sociocultural practice, there are some power and values inside and outside the media which are related to the text or news producing. The most powerfull factor is the ideology. Here, capitalism can be said as the main ideology which influenced and controlled the production of the news.
